Why Course 500 is the best:
Because the law requires that the teen drive take it between the ages of 14.6 and 15.6.
The program teaches the teen the A through Z of driving a car and comes with 6 hours of behind-the- wheel drive time with a Western Slope Driving Institute instructor.
It teaches students the Smith System of scanning, which means they will learn to Search, Evaluate, and Execute a maneuver to avoid high risk situations.
It teaches them how to function in the real world of driving such as steering techneques, braking techniques, how to make a left turn and a right turn correctly and safely, and how to properly set up for a lane change.
Students will learn malfunction drills, such as: what to do if … your car has a tire blowout; the headlights fail while driving; the accelerator sticks to the floor’ the brakes fail’ the engine quits running while driving, etc.
Students will be taught the different signage they will encounter in their
driving career’ how to identify at a distance by shape and color.
A full unit is spent on the D.U.I. portion of the program, a critically important element for the teen’s safety. The CO State laws and severe consequences of violations are clearly presented. Further, through a series of Power Point slides and very memorable videos, the tragic consequences associated with making bad decisions about driving after drinking or using drugs are vividly driven home to the teens.
This program, in most cases, will give parents an insurance discount. Also, their teen could receive a discount with a B average in school.
The permit test is included in the price of program 500, 400, and 300 but not with the other programs. The student will also receive their affidavit of course completion at this time, qualifying those who are 15 or over to get their permit.
This course is a 4 hour driver awareness program approved by the State of Colorado. The class is taught using the National Safety Council DDC-4 program. Student will use a workbook to guide them through the course instruction. This course is designed for students who don’t want the 30 hour course, companies who are looking to enhance their fleet management teams or employee skills in fleet vehicles, and for those who have received a traffic ticket.
